Comments

This 38-year-old man had multiple, varying-sized, round and oval as well as annular, erythematous, indurated plaques distributed symmetrically over his trunk and extremities. These asymptomatic lesions developed insidiously over 5 months. There was no nerve thickening and the lesions were sensitive to touch and pain. No other signs or symptoms were present besides the cutaneous changes. A smear revealed numerous acid-fast bacilli. A diagnosis of borderline lepromatous leprosy was made, and the patient responded well to multidrug therapy (multibacillary regimen).
