This 4-year-old girl with clinical features of uncombable hair syndrome had easily epilated hair which revealed microscopic findings typical of loose anagen hair syndrome

Description

With routine light microscopy the shaft has a uniform color (top center). When viewed with polarized filter in the crossed (extinguished) position, alternating light and dark horizontal bands are see (right, low power). The light and dark horizontal bands correspond to the "kinks" in the undulating shaft (left, high power).
