Comments

This lesion was removed from the buttock of an infant. Lymphangioma circumscriptum may represent a neoplasm of lymphatic endothelial cells or perhaps a congenital malformation. The differential diagnosis would include other lymphangiomas or lymphangiectasia.

Description

Histologic sections of skin show a proliferation of vascular channels within the papillary dermis. The overlying epidermis shows acanthosis and papillomatosis. The channels are variably-sized and filled with pink serum and scattered red blood cells. Mild inflammation is present at the base.
