A 65 year old man developed a 2 cm black plaque on his arm. Biopsy showed a superficial spreading melanoma with a Breslow index of 1.47 mm.. No metastasis were detected. The brown papule beneath the tumor was clinically believed to be a metastasis but histology revealed a blue nevus.
