Comments

Metastatic breast carcinoma is the most common metastatic tumor to the skin. Like other metastases, there is a predilection for skin overlying the tumor, as in this case. This particular case is lobular cancer and can be very subtle. Although this biopsy shows a cellular infiltrate, often times lobular cancer will be sparse and missed by the pathologist, and sometimes requires a cytokeratin immunostain for verification.

Description

There is a cellular infiltrate within the dermis. It forms nodules and cords, infiltrating between thickened collagen bundles. The overlying epidermis is uninvolved.
