A 9 year old girl developed painful violaceous nodules on the face, trunk and extremities. Cutaneous nodules were associated with painful arthropathy, high fever, decreased appetite and weight loss. Incisional skin biopsy revealed a leukocytoclastic vasculitis involving medium size deep dermal arteries typical of polyarteritis nodosa. She improved quickly with oral prednisolone and physical therapy. After several recurrences during the following year which also responded to oral steroids, she remains symptom free for over 3 years. She has no evidence of renal, gastrointestinal or cardiac involvement and will be monitored longterm by her pediatrician and dermatologist.
