This acute acral dermatosis was first described in 1990 occuring predominantly in adults. The hands, feets and perineum are affected by purpuric papules that may become confluent. Oral and genital ulcerations are frequently observed. Fever can follow a few days after the onset of the exanthem. This eruption was described during first infection by Parvovirus B 19, measles, Epstein-Bar virus and Cytomegalovirus infection. The eruption usually clears within 2 weeks.
