Comments

Cursory examination revealed scattered brown scale attached to the waist and thighs. Closer observation with a hand lens demonstrated the organisms attached to the hair. Pediculosis pubis is an infestation by Phthirus pubis. It is spread primarily through sexual contact. Phthirus pubis is morphologically shorter and more rounded than head and body lice. About one third of patients with pubic lice may have a second venereal disease and should be screened.
