A healthy 6 year old girl developed a diffuse asymptomatic chronic papulosquamaous eruption with slowly evolving red scaly red papules that healed with post inflammatory hypopigmentation. When the rash first began the papules were edematous and crusted, and a diagnosis of chicken pox was made. However, when the rash persisted for over 6 months, her pediatrician referred her for further evaluation. Skin biopsy showed changes consistent with pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta.
