A healthy 28 year old man started with a few scaly papules on the neck which disseminated over the trunk and proximal extremities. A clinical diagnosis of pityriasis rosea was made, and laboratory studies including a serologic test for syphilis were normal or negative. The rash resolved uneventfully 3 months later without treatment.
