This 25-year-old man developed a painful acneiform eruption on the beard area after shaving. Note that each inflammatory lesion has a hair follicle in the center. Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a foreign body reaction commonly affecting curly haired males who shave. Improper shaving techniques can contribute to the process by extrafollicular or transfollicular penetration
