A 7 week old infant developed progressive linear papules on his left hand and wrist spreading to his trunk and other extremities over several weeks. His parents were also itchy. A scabies preparation obtained from a burrow on the wrist showed a viable mite, and the entire was treated with 5 percent permethrin cream.
