This 40-year-old man with a history of Type 1 diabetes since age 15 noted thickening of his skin beginning on his upper back and anterior chest 3 years ago. The skin changes progressed to involve his entire torso as well as extremities. Although his face was relatively spared he complained of some increased tightness in his face. He also complained of a diffuse tightness in his skin and burning and pain in his hands. He denied Raynauds symptoms, dysphagia or reflux.
