At 2 years of age this healthy girl's parents noted that her hair developed a peculiar texture and was difficult to comb. She was growing and developing normally, and there was no family history of hair defects. Microscpopic examination of hair which was easily plucked from her scalp demonstrated twisted hairs many of which appeared to have a central groove. This disorder is usually inherited as autosomal dominant trait and found in non Afro-American families.
