This toddler with a low grade fever for 2 days presented to the emergency room for evaluation of diffuse tender erythema and crusting around the skin creases and orifices. The clinical findings were typical of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome, and a bacterial culture from purulent exudate around his nares grew Staphylococcus aureus. He recovered quickly with symtpomatic skin care and oral antibiotics.
