This healthy adolescent had a tattoo on his right arm which was treated with carbon dioxide laser ablation. Figure 1 shows the tattoo before treatment, figure 2 immediately after treatment, figure 3 2 weeks after treatment, and figure 4 3 months later. Although the Q-switched lasers have superceded the carbon dioxide laser in the treatment of tattoos because of the minimal risk of scarring of these lasers compared with CO2, there may still be a place for CO2 laser for selected patients.
