A 10 year old girl developed pruritic moth-eaten scaly red patches of hair loss on the scalp which progressed over several months. A culture from the scalp grew Microsporum canis, and she responded slowly to oral griseofulvin. After 4 months of therapy her scalp was markedly improved and her fungal culture was negative. She had a history of playing with stray kittens in the back alley.
