This 18-year-old girl developed acquired trichorrhexis nodosa from chronically rubbing and twirling her hair. Note the multiple white nodules which precede fracture of the hair shafts. The insets demonstrate a close up of the white nodules, and photomicrograph of the hair shaft with white nodules, and a photomicrograph with fractured shafts and splayed fibers.
