A 12 year old girl with varicella was misdiagnosed with poison ivy and started on oral prednisone. Although she developed only a few papules and vesicles initially by the 4th day of the rash lesions were widespread and in some areas almost confluent. After a difficult course including several episodes of Staphylococcal cellulitis, she recovered without longterm complications.
