Comments

This lesion on the chest of a 69-year-old woman was submitted as a possible blue nevus. Venous lakes are dilated blood vessels, often found in the elderly, likely due to gradual weakening of the vessel wall. Therefore, these are likely varices of sorts, and not true neoplasms.

Description

Histologic sections of skin show a blood-filled nodule within the dermis. This dilated sac is lined by bland endothelial cells.
