Comments

This is a typical example of the common wart, or verruca vulgaris. The viral cytopathic effect is pathognomonic for this HPV infection, but not always so evident. Older lesions may lose the characteristic koilocytosis and coarsening of keratohyaline granules. HPV-2 is the most common subtype.

Description

The characteristic HPV viral cytopathic effect is the koilocytosis (or pernuclear halos) and the clumping of the keratohyaline granules. These are most evident in the crevices.
